Singapore Secondary Schools

International FLS Corp is pleased to provide you with the procedure to apply to Singapore Secondary Schools. Please note that the application process may vary slightly depending on the specific school and the year of admission.

International Schools
  1. Research and Shortlist Schools: Begin by researching and identifying international schools in Singapore that align with your preferences and requirements. Consider factors such as curriculum (e.g., International Baccalaureate, A-Level, American Programme, etc.), language of instruction, location, facilities, extracurricular activities, and tuition fees.

  2. Determine Eligibility and Admission Criteria: Review the eligibility requirements and admission criteria of each shortlisted school. These may include age restrictions, English language proficiency, academic records, entrance exams, interviews, and other specific requirements set by the school.

  3. Gather Required Documents: Collect the necessary documents for the application. Typical documents may include your child's birth certificate, passport, previous school reports or transcripts, character references, vaccination records, and any additional documents specified by the school. For secondary levels, some schools may required you to prepare a student statement as part of the the application to show your academic interest as well as your English Proficiency Level.

  4. Submit Application Form: Obtain the application form from the school's website or admissions office. Fill in all the required details accurately and ensure that you provide all necessary information and supporting documents. Some schools may have an online application portal, while others may require a physical submission.

  5. Pay Application Fee: Many international schools require an application fee to be paid upon submission. Check the school's website or contact their admissions office to confirm the fee amount and payment method.

  6. Entrance Exams and Interviews: If required by the school, prepare your child for entrance exams or interviews. These assessments are conducted to evaluate your child's academic abilities, English language proficiency, and suitability for the school. For low primary students, due to the consideration on the age, the interview will deemed to be a small talk with the teacher, instead of a proper interview.

  7. Await Admission Results: After completing the application and assessment process, you will need to wait for the school's decision regarding your child's admission. Admission decisions may take a few weeks to a couple of months, depending on the school's admission cycle.

  8. Acceptance and Enrollment: If your child is offered a place at an international school, you will receive an acceptance letter or email. Follow the instructions provided to accept the offer within the specified timeframe. This may involve signing an acceptance letter and paying an enrollment or confirmation fee to secure your child's place.

  9. Prepare for School Entry: Once your child's enrollment is confirmed, you will receive further instructions from the school regarding the necessary preparations for starting school. This may include submitting additional enrollment documents, travel and migration plannings, attending orientation sessions, purchasing uniforms and school supplies, and familiarizing yourself with the school's policies and procedures.

It is important to note that each international school may have its own specific application process and requirements. Therefore, it is advisable to visit the official websites of the schools you are interested in or contact their admissions offices directly for the most up-to-date and accurate information on their application procedures.

Government Schools

To apply to primary level government schools in Singapore, all applicants are required to sit for the Admissions Exercise for International Students (AEIS) or the Supplementary Admissions Exercise for International Students (S‑AEIS). These test assesses the applicant’s proficiency in English and Mathematics.

  1. Understand the Admissions Exercise for International Students (AEIS):

    • The AEIS is specifically designed for international students seeking admission to primary or secondary levels in Singapore government schools.

    • The AEIS assesses the applicants' English language and Mathematics proficiency.

  2. Determine Eligibility:

    • Ensure that your child meets the age requirements for primary level education in Singapore.

    • Confirm if your child is eligible for admission under the Ministry of Education (MOE) criteria. This typically includes being a Singapore citizen, Singapore Permanent Resident (PR), or a child of a foreigner holding a valid work pass or student pass.

  3. Gather Required Documents:

    • Prepare the necessary documents for the application, which may include your child's birth certificate, passport, previous school reports or transcripts (if applicable), parents' identification documents, and any other supporting documents as specified by the MOE or individual schools.

  4. Submit Application Documents:

    • For non-Singapore citizens or non-Permanent Residents, submit the application through the AEIS. The AEIS application form can be obtained from the MOE website during the application period.

    • Complete the application form accurately and provide all the required information and supporting documents.

    • Submit the application form and documents to the MOE during the specified application period.

  5. AEIS Assessment:

    • If your child's application is accepted, they will be scheduled to sit for the AEIS assessment. The assessment typically covers English language and Mathematics proficiency.

    • The MOE will inform you of the assessment details, including the date, time, and location.

  6. Await Notification:

    • After the AEIS assessment, you will need to wait for the MOE's notification regarding your child's admission outcome.

    • The MOE will inform you if your child has been offered a place in a government primary school or if they have been placed on a waiting list.

  7. Acceptance and Enrollment:

    • If your child is offered a place, you will receive an acceptance letter or email from the MOE.

    • Follow the instructions provided to accept the offer within the specified timeframe.

    • Complete any necessary enrollment forms and submit additional documents as required by the school.

  8. Prepare for School Entry:

    • Once your child's enrollment is confirmed, you will receive further instructions from the allocated school regarding the necessary preparations for starting school.

    • This may include attending orientation programs, purchasing uniforms and school supplies, and familiarizing yourself with the school's policies and procedures.

It is important to note that the application process for secondary level government schools, including the AEIS, may have specific guidelines and timelines set by the MOE. Therefore, it is advisable to regularly check the MOE website or contact their Admissions Division for the most up-to-date and accurate information on the application procedures, AEIS dates, and any additional requirements.
